Have you avoided your dentist or delayed important dental treatment due to dental anxiety? We can help. You can take advantage of a valuable service when having dental treatment in our office. Conscious IV Sedation allows you to have dental work done in the utmost comfort. As opposed to general sedation, in which a patient is completely unconscious, conscious sedation allow you to remain awake but places you in a state of deep relaxation. You are still able to talk and communicate with the doctor but will remember little of the appointment afterwards. How is IV sedation different? Many dental offices offer nitrous oxide or even oral sedation (in which a patient takes a mild sedative pill prior to his or her appointment). Both of these forms of sedation have appropriate applications and we offer them to our patients as well. However, for some patients, these are not enough. Often they think that their only other option is general anesthesia, which has significant risks and recovery times. With IV sedation, you get the deep sedation you need with a rapid recovery.
Who can Benefit from IV Sedation? IV sedation allows our most fearful patients to complete their dental treatment comfortably. However, even patients who do not suffer from severe anxiety can benefit from IV sedation. IV sedation can help patients tolerate longer appointments, allowing them to minimize the number of visits needed to complete their treatment.
Can any dentist offer IV sedation? No. Dr. Miller is specially licensed by the Oregon Board of Dentistry to be able to perform IV sedation. In addition, his dental assistants are certified in expanded oral surgery procedures and in advanced life support.
The offering of IV sedation is another example of our commitment to offering our patients an array of options for their comfort.
