The Quick Solution to Many Cosmetic Dental Problems
- Posted on: Jul 15 2015
Straight teeth without any gaps, chips, or stains? Everyone wants that. But for some people with various cosmetic dental issues, they don’t have the time or the cash to go through all of the procedures needed to correct the problems.
That’s where porcelain veneers come in.
Like the veneers that you find on furniture, porcelain veneers are the same thing, just for your teeth. Veneers are porcelain overlays that are bonded onto the fronts of your teeth. The veneers cover up any flaws or tooth damage and show the world a beautiful smile. Porcelain veneers can cover these problems: chipped or damaged teeth, gaps between teeth, badly stained teeth, uneven teeth, and different colored teeth.
Before he starts the veneer process, Dr. Miller first examines your teeth to be sure they are fit for veneers. Any existing dental problem such as tooth decay or gum disease needs to be addressed and corrected before veneers can be applied.
Once Dr. Miller deems your teeth are ready, the process begins by shaving off ½ millimeter of the tooth enamel from each tooth to receive a veneer. Removing this enamel has a twofold purpose — it makes room for the veneer on the tooth and it creates a better surface for the veneer to adhere to. After the enamel is removed, impressions are then taken and sent off to the lab for fabrication of your veneers. The impressions will basically provide the blueprint for your custom-made veneers. The lab usually takes around a week to make your veneers; during this time you will wear temporary veneers to cover your exposed teeth.
When your veneers are finished, you’ll come back in for your second appointment. At that time, Dr. Miller will first check the fit and the color match of your veneers. He may need to shave a bit off here and there. Once he is satisfied, we will clean and polish your teeth. Then Dr. Miller will cement the veneers onto your teeth. He’ll remove any stray cement, perform one final check, and you’re good to go complete with a new beautiful smile.
